Decluttering My Kids Clothes
Join me as I do some major decluttering in my kid’s rooms! I get it pretty much down to the bare minimum, with one drawer for the baby, and two small dressers for the other four kids. The upcoming move will be a lot easier with minimal possessions! This is the first step for me to get organized in 2019!
Breakdown of How To Organize Kids Clothes
- Take all clothes out of the dresser and closet and place them in a pile on the floor.
- Separate clothes into four piles: Pile One: Clothes to keep, Pile Two: Clothes to take to thrift store, Pile Three: Clothes to throw away that have holes, stains, rips, and tear, Pile Four: Clothes to bring to Mom’s house so she can have clothes for the kids to change into if they need to.
- Find outfits in the clothes to keep pile. Fold and place back in the dresser or hang up if need be.
- Place the other three piles of clothes in bags and take to the thrift store, trash can, and Mom’s house.
My Rules for Kids Closet Organization
- I don’t save clothes for sentimental value.
- The only thing I do save is blue jean clothe items because they will last for years.
- I throw away clothes with stains, holes, rips, and tears.
- I give away clothes that do not go with an outfit.
- I only keep kid’s clothes that go with an outfit.

How Much Do I Spend on Kids Clothes
Honestly, I do not spend a whole lot of money on kid’s clothes because they receive clothes for Christmas and for birthdays from my family so I don’t really have to buy a whole bunch of new clothing items. But, if I had to guess, I would say I probably spend less than $50 total for each kid a year on clothes.
Where Do I Buy Kids Clothes
I usually shop at Target and Old Navy for my kid’s clothes. Target and Old Navy have really nice clothes for a good price so I like to shop there as well.

Hi! I have a couple of questions about minimalism with children…Do you get your children involved with the purging process when it comes to toys and kids’ things, or do you make the executive decision on what to toss and what to keep and just do your best to consider their feelings? Now that I have 4 children (ages ranging from 6m – 6 years) getting rid of toys has become a real battle. My kiddos seem to all love different toys since they are at different ages and stages and they all just end up fighting when I try to go through toys with them. We’ve been pretty much minimalists for a few years now and so we don’t have a lot of toys compared to many people, but since Christmas and birthdays and various random giftings in the past year I feel like we are snowed under with toys. I keep reading on various minimalist blogs that children should be involved any time it comes to getting rid of their things or else they’ll get anxious and form stronger attachments to things, but…..getting mine involved seems to make my children (and me!) more anxious than ever. lol. So I was just wondering how you handle this with your family! Thanks!
And I just want to say that I love your blog and I love your decor style. It makes me feel calm every time I look at it! 🙂
