These turkey Sloppy Joes on sourdough bread

These turkey Sloppy Joes on sourdough bread use only basic, whole ingredients. They are turkey based, which makes them a lighter choice for an easy family dinner.

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 onion diced
  • 1 bell pepper diced
  • 1 can tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoons mustard
  • 3 tablespoons organic brown sugar or honey
  • 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • several grindings of black pepper
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 2 pounds Jennie-O® Lean Ground Turkey Roll

  1. Add the olive oil, garlic, onion and bell pepper to a skillet over medium heat. Allow it to sauté for about 5 minutes, or until the veggies start to soften.
  2. Add in all the rest of the ingredients, except the turkey. Stir them together to combine the sauce.
  3. Once combined, add the Jennie-O® Lean Ground Turkey Roll to the skillet. Break it up with your spatula, and bring it to a simmer. Allow it to cook uncovered for about 10 minutes, or until the turkey reaches 165 degrees. (For safe cooking and handling of turkey, make sure to sanitize and clean surfaces, utensils, and your hands, to prevent cross contamination.)
  4. Grab a thick slice of homemade sourdough bread and scoop on a pile of the Sloppy Joes. Top it with a slice of sharp cheddar cheese and throw it back in the skillet with a bit of butter or olive oil. Toast it a touch, and allow the cheese to melt.
  5. Serve alongside some homemade cast iron potato wedges.
