A Victorian Farmhouse Christmas Tour

Join me as I decorate our 1860s Victorian farmhouse for Christmas! This year, I went with traditional red and green for a bright and cheery holiday home. 

Somehow, we’ve moved into December. The days are short, and the weather is getting colder, yet our farmhouse just pulses with cozy warmth. 

Snowflakes were falling while I milked the goats, and it was clear that winter is here. 

Holiday cheer is wafting through the house. Homemade cookies are baking in the oven, and some of our favorite family memories are being made. These slow days are some of the best.

If you saw our cottage decor post, then you know we went with a white and green theme this year. We filled that cozy cottage with beautiful, neutral colors that can go all winter long.

In our Victorian farmhouse, I decided to go with more traditional Christmas colors.

There are so many lovely variations of reds and greens to represent this season, and I also added some blue to tie in with all the blue decor we already have.

Victorian Farmhouse Christmas Tour

Entryway:

Two small, faux, Christmas trees with lights sit next to the entryway chair. Red and white plates were hung above the mirror, and an artificial wreath is displayed on the door.

Living Room:

The faux fireplace was decorated with faux garland and, using these stocking clips, I hung red customized stockings. My mom has been buying one of these stockings for each child when they are born, which is special for each of them as Christmas decorating begins.

I added some candles, as well as pictures of our farmhouse in the snow.

Cream cable-knit blankets are thrown over the chairs, and then more blankets and pillows are fluffed on the couches for extra coziness.

The Christmas Tree:

I really didn’t vary too much from last year’s Christmas Tree. We hung handmade ornaments with some bells, and placed a beautiful, cream-colored tree skirt around the base. I added some clip-on candle lights that I thought were really charming, as well as a few more lights.

To add some more pops of red, I hung red ornaments and added some berries I cut from a berry garland. It was actually much cheaper than just buying a bunch of berries on their own.

Lastly, I wrapped the tree with a creamy linen ribbon. I found that using clothespins made adding the ribbon really easy.

I tuck the ribbon into the middle of the tree, secured it with a clothespin on a branch, and if any of the clothespins show, it’s just adding another layer of farmhouse charm.

Dining Room:

My absolute favorite find this holiday season was a 16-piece set of red and cream Homer Laughlin China, for $28, from a local antique store. Usually this store is on the pricey side, so it was almost hard to believe the steal on this gorgeous set. 

I added the plates to the antique China cabinet with some red and white houses, white vases, and bells.

Faux green wreaths hang from the top of the cabinet, and a cheerful green and red table runner is across the farmhouse table. 

On the small cabinet, I placed beeswax candles in some vintage candle holders and placed them on an antique mirrored tray. A pitcher of dried eucalyptus and a hand-painted picture sit next to the tray. 

Lastly, grain sack stockings are hung by the drawer pulls.

Farmhouse Christmas Kitchen:

For the kitchen, I headed outside to forage for some greenery and herbs. Adding the greens to the open shelves in between the plates and white vessels gave a lovely pop of Christmas color.

The red and white plates make another appearance in the open shelves, as well as some cute little red and white mugs.

The fresh greenery was also added to the window sill, along with some homemade candles in mason jars. A striped apron hangs on the wall.

Stairway

Last year, I secured the garland on the top of the stair rail. This year, I decided to use ribbon and bells to swoop it along. I love it so much. Garland on old farmhouse stairs multiplies the nostalgia, and brings me so much joy. 

Bedroom:

Warm red and cream linen bedding and pillows with red piping dress the bed.

Touches of greenery, candles, and bells are spread throughout the room. The dresser gets festive with a plaid runner, curled red ribbon, greens, and a gold candelabra.

To add that last holiday touch to the room, I added faux wreaths tied with red ribbon.
