Equipment

  • Sewing machine
  • fabric

Ingredients

  • TOP PIECE 18.5” by 31”
  • TOP SIDE PIECES 2 4” by 15”
  • SEAT PIECE 18” by 20.5”
  • BOTTOM PANEL 94” by 9”

Instructions

  • You can use these instructions to sew a slipcover for any size chair. The measurements for the cut list above are specific to the IKEA HENRIKSDAL bar stool, but the same directions can be applied to any parsons style chair, dining room chair or barstool. Just adjust the measurements according to your specific piece.
  • You will see how the slipcover process plays out and apply it to your own piece. I started by cutting out all the pattern pieces from the cut list above. The seat on this specific chair angles in, so I needed to adjust for that.
  • I started by draping the top piece over the top of the chair, with the right side facing down. I checked to make sure it was pulled evenly all around and that the stripes were straight.
  • Next, I pinned in the side pieces. After sewing the side pieces on, I attached the seat piece, making sure to line up all the stripes. The final step was to attach the bottom panel and pleats.
