Ingredients

Hawaiian rolls, a plate of ham and cheese, and other ingredients on a countertop.

Soft Hawaiian rolls – You can use the store bought soft dinner rolls or make homemade sourdough Hawaiian rolls. You do want Hawaiian rolls for the slider buns because the sweetness of the rolls pairs perfectly with the savory baked ham.

Dijon mustard – Skip the Dijon for younger eaters or sub with honey mustard for a milder flavor. You can also use yellow mustard, if you prefer.

Ham – Use your favorite deli ham – honey ham, black forest ham, or even a spicy hot ham.

Swiss cheese – Obviously you need melted Swiss cheese for a ham and Swiss slider, but you can substitute other cheeses as you like.

Step 5: Return to the oven and bake for another 20-25 minutes, until the tops are golden brown and slightly crisp. Serve with pickles or a tangy coleslaw to cut through the richness.

Tips

  • Don’t separate the rolls before slicing, keep the slab intact and slice horizontally to make assembly fast and even.
  • Skip the Dijon for younger eaters or sub with honey mustard for a milder flavor.
  • Store leftover ham sandwiches in an airtight container or wrapped tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat the next day in a toaster oven or covered in foil in the oven until warmed through. Leftovers reheat well in a toaster oven or air fryer for 5 minutes at 350°F gets them crisp and gooey again.
