Ingredients

Ingredients to make lavender lemonade arranged on the counter.

Honey – I love to use local raw honey when possible, but any raw honey will work. You can also experiment with using maple syrup or cane sugar.

Culinary grade lavender –  I like to use lavender from a local farm, but you can buy lavender for culinary use at the grocery store as well. Culinary lavender typically comes from Lavandula angustifolia plants, also known as “true” or English lavender.

Lemon juice – Fresh lemon juice from fresh lemons produces the best results in this homemade lemonade recipe.

Step 6: Taste and adjust—add more honey for sweetness or more lemon juice for tartness. Serve chilled.

Tips

  • Be careful to not exceed 15 minutes for steeping the lavender. Otherwise, the lavender can become bitter. If you prefer a stronger lavender taste, you can always add more lavender blossoms.
  • Adjust the ingredient amounts based on your preferences. Play with the ratio of sugar for the right amount of sweetness for your taste. If you want only a slight lavender flavor, cut down on the amount of lavender.
  • When choosing lemons for your fresh lemonade, look for ones that are large, firm, and have a bright color to get a juicier lemon.
  • After mixing, taste the lemonade and adjust with extra lemon juice (for more tang) or honey (for more sweetness).
  • Swap some or all of the water for sparkling water just before serving for a fizzy twist.
  • Add a splash of gin or vodka for an easy cocktail version.
