Strawberry desserts are a favorite around the farmhouse – from sourdough strawberry shortcake, to strawberry cheesecake ice cream and sourdough strawberry cream cheese cobbler.

I first made this strawberry sauce for my strawberry cheesecake. It was so good that I started using it on everything from my fresh milled Dutch baby to ice cream sundaes.

There is no shortage of uses for this topping, and it is oh, so delicious!

How to Make Strawberry Sauce

Step 1: Whisk together sugar and cornstarch in a small bowl.

Step 2: In a medium saucepan, combine frozen strawberries and the sugar-cornstarch mixture.

Step 3: Cook over medium heat until thick and bubbling, about 5 – 10 minutes.

Step 4: Use a potato masher or fork to smush the strawberries and speed up the process.

Step 5: Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and lemon juice. 

Sauce strained through a strainer into a bowl.

Step 6: Strain through a fine mesh strainer to remove seeds and pulp. Let cool completely.

Step 6: Use sauce right away or store in an airtight container. You can also quarter fresh strawberries and toss with the cooled strawberry sauce for serving as well.

  • Smash the strawberries ahead of time with a potato masher or fork to speed up the process.
  • Take time to taste the strawberry sauce and adjust with more lemon juice or more vanilla as desired.
